Hi ——,
So good to hear from you! Sorry I've been delayed in replying to your email - the Oxford program is going remote and sending us all home for the duration of spring break and our last term because of the coronavirus. I leave home for California on Friday afternoon and I'm happy to see my family sooner than expected, but I'm heartbroken to be saying good-bye to my friends here so soon. I know I'll see them in the fall (fingers crossed) but it just won't be the same. Living here together really brought out the best in all of us, built a tight-knit and supportive community that'll change when senior year rolls around. I know we can communicate virtually in the meantime but there's nothing like being physically present with the people you've grown so much to love. I've even put off packing, maybe hoping that I'll stop the inevitable by doing so.
Thankfully, there are some things even a pandemic can't take away from me. I've been filling my days by reading, writing, cooking, watching a lot of Netflix, and just spending as much time with my friends now while I can. We're having a movie night in our kitchen tonight, a Studio Ghibli film, though we haven't decided which one yet.
Still, I'm uncertain about so much in my life right now. I've had to say good-bye to new people and places more times in the last three years than the rest of my life combined, easily. I'm so tired of saying good-bye. It'd be nice for things not to change every once in a while. But for now, I'll try to keep my spirits up. I'm excited to hear about your novel. We need writers now more than ever, I think.
All my love,
Sofia
